Lopha O is a 3D printer with a sense of autonomous behaviour that cannot print a perfect model. When data is transmitted to Lopha O, it analyses the data and changes the printed shape of the model in real-time according to the environment during the printing process, generating a variation that is based on the original model, but with a different final product.
3D printing is widely used in the design industry. However, 3D printing itself is an oxymoron: it can easily and quickly output models, but it is easily disturbed by external factors such as temperature, humidity, and print failure, amongst other influences.
With Lopha O, I hope to demonstrate the multi-faceted nature of 3D printing. I envision a future in which 3D printers are used to create all products. In this era, due to the refinement of computing and the precise output of 3D printing, every aspect of people’s lives (food, clothing, furniture, small products, architecture, etc) will be produced in near-perfect form.
